Symposium Preamble
The 2nd International Postgraduate & Early-Career Researchers in Applied Linguistics Symposium (IPEALS 2025), themed “Exploring New Horizons: Empowering Emerging Voices in Applied Linguistics”, is a dedicated platform for emerging scholars to share work-in-progress, exchange ideas, and receive constructive feedback in a collegial environment. Held virtually via Zoom on Sunday, 21 December 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., this MAAL MYRO-led symposium brings together postgraduate students and early-career researchers who are eager to refine their research and deepen their engagement with the applied linguistics community.
IPEALS 2025 offers a rich spread of thematic tracks that reflect the diversity and dynamism of contemporary applied linguistics: Multilingualism, Society & Sustainability; Artificial Intelligence & Language Technology; Language in Professional & Academic Contexts; Linguistics, Social Issues & Policy; Discourse & Language Use; Language Teaching, Learning & Acquisition; Early Childhood Language & Literacy Development; Cognitive & Psychological Aspects of Language; and other relevant topics. Across these tracks, participants are invited to present ongoing or completed research, explore emerging methodologies, and engage critically with issues that shape language use, education, and policy in today’s world.
This symposium is designed especially for those who are worried about research progress, in need of guidance, looking for fresh ideas, seeking viva or proposal tips, or hoping to fine-tune a journal article. Through informal scholarly exchanges, focused feedback, and interaction with reputable academics, IPEALS 2025 aims to help you smoothen your research journey, strengthen your academic network, and remain motivated in advancing your work. Whether you are at the proposal stage, in the thick of data analysis, or polishing a manuscript, IPEALS 2025 provides a supportive space for your voice to be heard and your research to grow.

- Open to all local & international postgraduate & early-career researchers.
- For presenters, registration is FREE for all MAAL members, and only RM30 for non-MAAL members. For non-presenting participants, registration is FREE for everyone.
